Milk Project- Veronika Lewis

When given the assignment for the milk product the first thing I thought of was our target audience. When I think about adults and people of an older generation I think of sophistication, as well as the desire to go back to being young and spry. I think of the desire to keep up with their health and get a many vitamins and minerals as necessary into their bodies. As people grow older, it;'s frustrating to start to see themselves not being able to do stuff they were able to do as a kid because their bones are weaker and they move ten times slower still working up a sweat, That's why I decided to name my product, "4theBones" representing how the milk will keep bones healthy enough for adults to have strength to do things they did when they were young that they still dream and strive to do. It is spelled with a "4" rather than a "For" because 4 represents the four essential nutrients in milk that help the body greatly. They are Potassium, Calcium, Vitamin D, and Vitamin A. My slogan, "Keeps ya MOOvin' and Groovin' All Day Long", also represents that youthful feeling along along with my logo. I added the "MOO" just as a cute little corny slogan representing the sound of a cow that makes this amazing milk. Movin' and Groovin' sounds like a phrase of the 70s which brings adults back to their younger times. I drew a cow on a scooter for my logo because it keeps moving and riding with much energy and strength. Riding a scooter is probably something a lot of adults did as a kid and reminisce about, wishing they were still strong enough to do it. I wanted to stick with my "back in the day" feeling when I picked out my bottle. I picked a glass bottle because it had an old "milkman" feel to it. It's like when the milkman used to deliver milk around the neighborhoods. Although my bottle is a lot smaller, it is a representation of that time and type of milk bottle. The only modern feel I tried to contrast the old feel with was with the font, red and blue colors, and bolded print. I want adults to feel just as good, healthy, and strong as they did when they were young by drinking this delicious milk.

Art Show Reflection-Veronika Lewis

I absolutely loved the art show. All of the pieces had great contrast and there was just so many different kinds of art to look at. The black and white photos were absolutely gorgeous, and in every picture although it was the same area and same girl, there was a different feeling and emotion that I took out of each individual picture. I also loved the shoes. They were probably my favorite pieces on display, because every shoe was completely different and each told a story about the artist. The piece I would definitely pay $10 for is the shoe with the pencil, pen, and ruler heels/design. As I read the description, the artist said she wanted to represent her love for wanting to be a teacher and I feel the same passion. I would love to hang that in my classroom when I teach someday. Seeing my hard work, despite how frustrated I may have gotten while attempting to build and create things I hadn't before, was a lot of fun. I felt like I was someone important in the show, and seeing the art displayed next to everyone's similar pieces but noticing the contrasts, made it look better to me than when I was just presenting it myself. I was a lot more confident about it. It was fun.

Sculpture-Veronika Lewis

For my project, my group was assigned the word cantilever. At first I was thinking this would be the hardest thing for me to try to relate to or to create something, but it ended up being a lot of fun. I decided to make a swimming pool and diving board. The diving board projected forward at the top was only attached along one side of the pool. This personally connects to my world because I was a swimmer for about 6 years and I love swimming, and I thought it'd be fun to make as i envisioned a pool and boards from back then to replica. When I thought of the word cantilever I automatically thought of support, which is present in many things in the world, where one end or one part of a building is the entire support. As far as something known, the above the grand canyon there is a cantilever present also known as the Skywalk, where you are literally hanging over the canyon being held by the support only on one end. I thought it was pretty cool.

BAM! Dave's face exuded with anger. He showed his son Mel the disaster. A car had crashed into the house. Mom screamed knowing Mel was the one to crash as a newly licensed driver. Mel seemed content because he knew state farm would obviously be there with...A NEW HOUSE!

Silhouette Portrait

At the start of this project, I had the idea of this collage in my head, with both the silhouette and background, but as I started working on it I realized the contrast and reasoning for that wasn't clear. I decided to go for contrasting colors in my eyes. Colors that seem to represent me well are blue, greens, grays, because those colors represent calm, easy going, relaxed feelings which are qualities I feel I exude. I developed this personality as I became older and more mature and aware of what is necessary to get upset, or frustrated about. Learning to ignore the stress in the back of your mind is something that took me a long time to adjust to, but it still surrounds me. I keep my calm though no matter what. This is why the backdrop is all red. Red to me can represent passion, but also fury, anger, stress, something that takes a lot of energy and it's something I can overcome with the serenity I feel in my life now. The one bit of yellow represents the beginning of stress returning. I think of yellow, orange, and red as similar bright, high energy colors, so it shows that I can't completely rid of everything, but the majority can be beat by my laidback personality.

As for shapes, they are pretty much ll over the place. I tried to make the red background cuts, more geometric and square, rectangular shapes for the most part that makes me uncomfortable, while the blues, greens, and gray's all kind of melt together and swim together combining into many elements of my personality.

Fashion Reflection-Veronika Lewis

1. I learned that a big part of other people's fashion sense was similar to mine as far as the way things are chosen. Laziness, skin tone, and being comfortable had a lot to do with things chosen. Complexion colors that complimented everyone was a big thing for all of us, and because we are college students, we all discussed the fact that deciding how to dress every morning truly depended on how lazy or tired we were. None of us were really expressing our "fashion sense" in class on Thursday because we were having one of those lazy days, where dressing to express us and our personality was not a priority. Being comfortable in what we were wearing was another big thing for all of us. To enjoy fashion, you must be comfortable in your own skin with what you are wearing.

2. The clothing line I came up with was called "Comfy, but Classy". This was to represent the fact that no matter what I'm wearing whether it is a fancy dress, or beautiful high heeled boots, or skinny jeans, they all must have a comfy factor to in me over. I don't care how cute something is if I'm not relaxed and comfortable wearing it. The colors I would use in my line I said would be black, turquoise, and green. Choosing only three colors is extremely difficult for me though, because I absolutely love floral. That would be a big thing in my design. I love floral and designs. I am not big on just plain shirts, I like color on color, and color that will blend together nicely. Ironically, my favorite article of clothing being this dress I posted, is white with huge red flowers, but includes blue and the type of green I love. It is floral, so that's where that taste comes into my line. So i don't think it's fair I can only pick three colors, because with designs and floral patterns, there could potentially be many more colors involved. I would say college students would buy the line, high school as well.

3. A typical work outfit would consist of a pencil skirt and either moderately high comfortable heels or black boots with a small heel, dark nylons, and a button down tucked in collared shirt. Maybe I'd through a blazer on now and then. A typical "play" outfit would be probably what it is today. For me "play" means the most comfortable thing in my closet and that would probably include leggings or yoga pants, moccasins, and a big t-shirt or a sweatshirt hoddie. If this was to just hang out, that's what I would wear; If I was planning on going somewhere out, I'd probably wear skinny jeans, boots, and a bright colored, floral tank top and cardigan.

Veronika Lewis-Public Art Pitch Reflection

1.If I was going to choose a public art project to fund as an alumna from Butler, I would have to pick Blue's Buried Treasures. Not only is it a creative idea, and would be a fun interactive way to interest incoming students to the school, during tours, it is representative of cool things about the school. Each area was very specific with what sculpture was put where, and the reasoning was well put together. The objects seemed awesome and big enough to entertain a small child too, and the rhymes were cool to figure out. This is family friendly, and gets students to know the campus and school in a more creative and fun way.
2. I think "Picnic on the mall" would require the most funding because not only are there 21 sculptures, I think I counted, that are life size looking, but also they are pewter which is going to end up being extremely expensive. I love the idea; I just think that many sculptures around campus would be a lot of money.
3. I don't think I'd revise our pitch, because we were pretty excited about our idea, although I loved everyone's ideas as well. I think the best part of our pitch was discussing the four things we thought we'd represent with Jungle Jim, being school spirit, community, play, and physical well being. We explained each well and I think all four of those things are important factors to being successful with school and as a representation of a school.

PUBLIC ART PROPOSAL

We decided to pick an area of the quad between the HRC and Hinkle to place our public art. This spot is known around campus to all different types of people. Many people venture to the HRC to play basketball, grab a delicious smoothie, to workout, use the pool or the sauna, or even just to hang out with friends. Many people also surround Hinkle for not only all athletic events, but sports have practices over there. We decided this would be a prime spot to place public art since it is frequently used by staff as well. Our idea is to create a huge three lane treadmill-like machine, similar to a moving sidewalk, just faster, that will circle a huge 3 story rocket like-climbing bar device in the shape of a man we would like to call “Jungle Jim”. We thought the name was cute because he would have bars all around him to climb just like the old days on the playground when we used to play on jungle gyms. The figure would be wearing a Butler hat to represent school spirit.

When we envisioned this public art the reason we chose an outside venue because we really think older kids, especially college students, rarely have the opportunity to “play” outside or get fresh air. Most workouts, unless participating in a sport, involve being inside and now this gives everyone a chance to participate in a fun activity and workout running on the outdoor treadmills. It also gives students a chance to go into their childhood memories and fun times on the playground from back in the day. It gives everyone a chance to access their inner child back when things were a lot simpler, and more relaxing. We thought this was an important thing considering many college students deal with stress, pressure and so much going on that there is little time for relaxing fun. As a child, this outdoor activity was a huge sense of relief for any burden a kid could be feeling. Now with this "Jungle Jim” available, college students can release some of their tension by heading back to a life of fun and innocence for a couple hours. We felt this piece of public art would bring a community aspect because the various amount of people would be able to join together in this spontaneous group fitness activity.

Veronika Lewis- Paper Value Project

I made a snowflake out of a single piece of paper to make it of some value to me. There is a lot of sentimental value with making snowflakes from when I was little and one specific time where this memory sticks out. The only year I remember there being a huge blizzard in Evanston, IL where I live, is in kindergarten. There were three teachers who taught kindergarten and only one showed up. I lived about a block from the school and my dad walked me over, but because barely any students showed up that day and there was only one teacher, we just made snowflakes the entire day. They taught us and we made huge ones, small ones, and many different designs. It was a really fun memory to me so there is value to it.
