I titled my silhouette portrait; She Sees Beauty (Never in Herself). I knew from the start that the colors I wanted to feature were black and gray, but I also wanted to incorporate some source of vibrant color. I really wanted to push myself as well as my comfort zone by making a piece that is personal as well as something that expresses the emotions and struggles I deal with on a daily basis

I decided to trace my silhouette twice and make it look like the figures were facing one another and interacting. The black figure is supposed to appear as a reflection in the mirror. The pointed finger suggests that orders are being given or that the other figure is being told to remain silent (“shhh”). The silhouette in black represents the recurring, negative thoughts and personal enemy that I fight each day in regard to my body image/appearance. I chose the color black because for me it resonates feelings of power, strength, grief, and fear. Every time I catch a glance of myself in a reflective surface whether it be a mirror or not, destructive thoughts come racing into my head. My mind begins to over-think, ridicule, and pick-apart every perceived flaw. The act of looking at myself in a mirror is a scary thing that I tend to avoid but am working on ways to overcome the struggle and cope in more constructive ways.

The gray silhouette surrounded by colorful flowers is positioned with its’ head downward in order to suggest shame, doubt, weakness, and vulnerability. These are the emotions that I deal with because of negative body image. I chose to use the color gray because when I see gray I get a sense of emptiness, a bit of sadness, insecurity, and isolation. The gray is cut into rectangular, bar-like strips to symbolize prison bars. At times I feel so stuck and caught up in the thoughts and effort to be “perfect” that I can feel restrained and isolated. It is like the figure in the mirror, my own reflection, is bullying me to the point that I start to believe that what it’s saying is true. I wanted the gray figure to look vague and blurred among the flowers to represent that my identity is not clear and it sort of fades into the background. The vibrant flowers of pink, red, blue, yellow, and purple are all happy colors that make me smile. Even though I battle with myself everyday, I am capable of seeing beauty and positivity in EVERYTHING else around me (people, places, animals, nature, actions, relationships words, etc.) My surroundings are full of liveliness, opportunity, and beauty.

All of the shapes I used (squares, triangles, circles, and rectangles) are geometric. I am a person who is more comfortable when things are in order and predictable. I tend to be less spontaneous and have always been a huge perfectionist so for me geometric figures represent control.

The title of my artwork, She Sees Beauty (Never in Herself), was inspired by what I learned while doing this project and hints at what the intended meaning of the piece is. When looking in the mirror I may not see beauty in myself but I am able to see the splendor and beauty around me and that gives me hope! This project allowed me to express struggle in my life without using words, only colors and shape. It made me aware of how I see myself and inspired me to think about what I want to see change in the future.

Silhouette Project- Kathryn Graham

The silhouette project allowed me to learn many things about myself. Not only was I able to realize new aspects and facets about myself but also I was able to learn about my personal take on color and how that is reflected through my emotions.

When beginning this project I thought it would be easy to create a work of art that reflected my emotions through the use of color. That thought turned out to be completely wrong as I started and then continued to work on my piece. I began to critically think about the placement of colors, the shapes I would use, and the placement of the specific colors I choose. This obsession over such things began to reflect how much of a perfectionist I am along with having to be organized at all times. To reflect this feeling but at the same time trying to steer away from this I used geometric shapes for the ground of my piece and organic shapes for the figure of the piece. I choose to use geometric shapes for the ground to represent the organized perfectionist side of me that people can view from my outer being. My figure has organic shapes to portray all the thoughts and ideas jumbled inside my head and how internally I am not organized or perfect at all which my outward actions seem to portray.

As for the color in my piece, my figure consists of shades of blue, green, and pink. Each color was picked for a specific reason that I did not fully know the reason behind until my piece was completed. After researching each color I used I found out that blue represents the meanings of chastity, loyalty, fidelity, faith, modesty, and eternity. I can see myself in this color and shades thereof because I have always been loyal and modest and have faith in what I do and accomplish in life. I also used blue to signify calmness within all the craziness that goes on internally for me. Green has the meanings of love, joy, abundance, hope, gladness, and spring. All of these descriptors match me again as ideas or things that I enjoy, strive to obtain or be to others and myself. Pink stands for love, purity, kindness, energy, passion, power, and courage. My reasoning behind using pink did not match the definition I found for pink. I used to pink to symbolize the erratic thoughts, stress, and all the pent up craziness that I have inside me that people often do not see. As for using black and white for my ground it was based on the outer characteristics people possibly can see in me. Black has the meaning of independence, death, strength, protection, and mystery. I choose it based on how independent I am in my life, the strength to get me through the hardest of times I have, and the wall I put up to protect myself from getting hurt.

As for white it means light, goodness, innocence, and perfection. I used white to signify the perfection I seek in many aspects of my life along with the light I have about life. When looking at the use of all my colors together for the piece I chose them to signify that I am a colorful person in a black and white world while my inner identity is not always conveyed on the outside. No matter what my colors, though, I have to remember there is only one me!

The main colors that I used to represent myself for the silhouette project were blue and purple. In the interior of my silhouette, I used these two colors to represent many characteristics. The reason the interior of my silhouette is composed of many little pieces is because it represents the many pieces that create who I am today and who I strive to become. My life is like a puzzle, yet to be complete, but each day it gets a little bit closer to being a whole. The interior is mostly covered in blue which represents my creativity and intelligence. Blue to me also represents my strength, the wisdom I’ve obtained, and the trust I hold between my friends and family. There are spurts of purple throughout the interior because it represents the mystery and nobility of my life.

The background of my silhouette represents the world around me. The background is composed of mostly black with random spurts of red. I used black to represent the evil and the dangers of the world around me. I placed little spurts of red in the background, red is mainly associated with caution, blood and war. It's me against the world.

The silhouette/self-portrait that I created artfully represents an overall picture of the emotions I experience on a daily basis. Using a spectrum of red-purple-blue to fill the figure of my face represents the notion that my emotional experiences change very often throughout the day depending on what I am engaging in. The purple represents me at my baseline, depicting my deep, empathetic, and somewhat mysterious nature as well as my love for beauty and vibrancy. It is a midpoint between my extreme states of stress (red) and calmness/carefree attitude (blue). I chose saturated, darker versions of these three colors to represent the fact that I tend to feel emotions very strongly but also that I tend to obscure them from the outside world. These three colors were interlinked using small pieces of amorphous magazine scraps. Using amorphous shapes in my figure is significant in that this spectrum of emotion that I feel each day changes and morphs very quickly, seamlessly, and unpredictably. Therefore, I wanted these colors to intermix haphazardly. In contrast, the ground of my silhouette is constructed of geometric, straight lines of varying thickness. These lines represent my interpretation of the outside world as being more straightforward and mapped out than my internal, emotional world. The lines represent the passing of time, with the different colors of yellow, orange, and red representing the exciting opportunities that the outside world presents me with (yellow/orange) as well as the challenges that I face (red). I wanted to use red in both the figure and ground so as to show the fluid impact of the outside world on me internally.

The abstract elements of color and shape are utilized within this collage to represent a portrait of me as a person. During this process I learned a lot about how I view the blurred lines between myself internally and the outside world. I thought a lot about how my range of emotions are impacted by the outside world as well as what my characteristic emotions (empathy, deepness of thought) are. I was not surprised by any of this, but did find myself paying more attention to these emotional processes during day-to-day life. It is very interesting how color and shape can influence the ways in which you feel and experience things.

The process of making this project really says a lot about me as a person. In planning and even while doing this project, I kept changing my mind as to what exactly I wanted it to look like and what I wanted it to represent. I always seem to change my mind on a whim! Something I learned about myself that surprised me is that my first thought may not always be my best or of better quality. I’ve always been taught to “follow my first mind” but by doing this project I see that my first idea would not have been of as good quality as what I have done now.

There are a variety of ways I used the colors to make a portrait of me. I used black and white as the colors for the silhouette for various reasons. The colors are arranged in a jumbled fashion, which represents how my mind usually goes 75 miles per hour because I am constantly thinking and doing things in a fast pace. Also, many of my friends call me an Oreo, black on the outside and white on the inside, so the colors also show the “mix” of black and white in me.

The ground represents me growing as a person. The colors I used represent my favorite colors as I grew up. When I was younger my favorite color was red, then it was blue, then it was red again, and now it is green. In a way, they serve as a timeline of my life. They are sort of like stages of my life, which is why they are placed in the order they are on the poster and why they are horizontal. As I grew taller, or got older, my favorite color changed so that is why red is at the bottom and green, which represents the present, is at the top.

I actually found this project to be a little bit frustrating. I had problems with the fact that we had to assign meaning behind every color that we used and where or how we used it. I do believe that there should be an overall message, meaning, or intent behind art, but I almost felt restricted, in a way, in what I could do. I felt like any sort of meaning that I could put into the collage through color or shape would be too obvious, and I like when viewers are able to interpret artwork in their own, unique ways. There were certain things that I thought would look really neat, but I couldn't do them because there was no particular personal meaning behind them. Although this project was extremely tedious, it was well worth the end result.

Upon researching the meanings associated with the colors I was drawn to, I found some interesting results: Blue, obviously, is the color of the sky and sea (as used in my collage). It's associated with depth and stability, and symbolizes trust, positivity, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, power, tranquility, calmness, and seriousness. Green is also associated with nature. It symbolizes growth, harmony, hope, freshness, safety, stability, and endurance. I chose to contrast the green with red, which is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination, passion, desire, and love. A main color I used in the figure was white, which is associated with light, goodness, innocence, safety, purity, virginity, and cleanliness. It's considered to be the color of perfection. However, in contrast, black is associated with power, elegance, formality, death, strength, authority, evil, the unknown, negativity, fear, and mystery.

The interesting thing is that I researched the meanings of the colors after I had already chosen them. I was able to find many connections between the colors and my personality and life, which could subconsciously be why I chose them. For example, I chose to use black and white in the figure because I feel like I'm constantly trying to achieve perfection, which is not always a possibility. There are many things about me that are very pure, positive, and innocent, but at the same time I often have negative thoughts and fear of the unknown. Especially at this point in my life, so close to graduation, I'm frequently fretting over the future and what I'm going to do with my life. On the other hand, I've never been one to know exactly what I want in terms of the future, so I just have to stay positive and trust that everything will work itself out for the best.

In terms of the background, I wanted it to seem more like a painting than like a bunch of squares of magazines pasted together. I elected to search for images of the sky, ocean, and plants. I've always loved spending time outside, especially during the summer, so it only made sense to have a background that consisted of nature. In one short year I'm going to be thrown out in the "real world" and have to fend for myself, so this background is a symbol of what I'll soon encounter. The clock towards the top represents the fact that time is constantly coming and going, and that my time at Butler is soon running out.

I chose to use primarily squares and rectangles because, for one thing, they were a whole lot easier to cut out, and I'm also the type of person that's very organized. I function best when I know exactly what I need to do and when it needs to get done by, so the strict, geometric shapes are a representation of that. The clock and the running numbers are amorphous, organic shapes because, unlike other elements of my life, I cannot control time. I also chose to allow the yellow poster board to show through and outline my silhouette because it more successfully shows the amorphous shape of my silhouette as well as more clearly divides the figure from the background. No matter how much my surroundings can affect who I am and what I do, I'm still separate from them; I'm my own person.

At the start of this project, I had the idea of this collage in my head, with both the silhouette and background, but as I started working on it I realized the contrast and reasoning for that wasn't clear. I decided to go for contrasting colors in my eyes. Colors that seem to represent me well are blue, greens, grays, because those colors represent calm, easy going, relaxed feelings which are qualities I feel I exude. I developed this personality as I became older and more mature and aware of what is necessary to get upset, or frustrated about. Learning to ignore the stress in the back of your mind is something that took me a long time to adjust to, but it still surrounds me. I keep my calm though no matter what. This is why the backdrop is all red. Red to me can represent passion, but also fury, anger, stress, something that takes a lot of energy and it's something I can overcome with the serenity I feel in my life now. The one bit of yellow represents the beginning of stress returning. I think of yellow, orange, and red as similar bright, high energy colors, so it shows that I can't completely rid of everything, but the majority can be beat by my laidback personality.

As for shapes, they are pretty much ll over the place. I tried to make the red background cuts, more geometric and square, rectangular shapes for the most part that makes me uncomfortable, while the blues, greens, and gray's all kind of melt together and swim together combining into many elements of my personality.

Alexis Marin- Silhouette Portrait

I like bright colors, I love color in general which is why I wanted my portrait to be full of it! I feel that color can influence my mood. I’m very optimistic and a happy person so I tend to gravitate towards bright, bold colors more often. For example, my room is orange. It’s bright and happy so that my mood may reflect the room I spend the most time in at home. That’s what I wanted my collage to show.
As a whole, I wanted my portrait to really take the shape of a collage. I just really enjoy collages. I feel that they can tell a story through the many shapes and colors and I love the chaos of a collage; seeing exactly how all the different colors and pictures can come together. I wanted mine to be dynamic, bold, bright, and really make a statement because I feel that reflects me as a person.
The 2 separate parts, the figure and ground, represent 2 sides of me; what I think people see and who I truly am on the inside. The ground is more of the loud, bold, and bright side of my collage. It represents my outgoing personality. I am very friendly and like to have fun. The figure is more soft and full of pastels. Aside from being outgoing and fun, I am actually really very sensitive and caring. It’s funny because I didn’t try to choose any one specific color, but it seems that I subconsciously gravitated a lot towards my favorite color pink.
As for the shapes, I chose to mix and matched between organic and geometric to show my spontaneity and versatility. I like to be organized but at the same time I like the excitement of not knowing what’s next, like my shapes! All in all, I really think my collage represents me as a person. I wanted my figure and ground to somewhat stand apart, but at the same time to mesh together to show how my exterior personality and inner personality come together to form me as a whole.

Keriann Roush-Fashion/Color Reflection

1. I learned that everyone loves to wear NorthFace jackets. Well maybe not everyone, but I was definitely surprised by the number of people around me that I had never noticed wearing one before. Also, my group discussed the differences between the clothes we really like to wear, and the more comfortable and plain attire we often wear to class. The other girls in my group seemed to like many of the same colors I do, as well as brighter clothes often with a floral print.

2. The line of clothing I came up with was called Five Minutes Later... For me this name makes sense because it always seems like five minutes later I am changing my mind or doing something different. My colors for my line were pale blue, deep teal, and camel. The line would be aimed at 20-something women looking for casual but classic summer where. The kind of girl who likes to wear cowboy boots with a sun dress, a little bit of free spirit. The dress in my picture would most definitely be a part of this collection.

For work I would typically wear a high waisted pinstripe grey pencil skirt with a pale blue shirt and neutral colored high heels. In my leisure time, I’d probably wear a sun dress and boots, particularly to an outdoor concert in the summer time.

Ashley - Fashion/Color Reflection

I learned that the people in my group shared a common sense of fashion. We all picked very similar colors and styles for our lines and we all emphasized the need for a relaxed look. We wanted something suitable for young college kids with busy lives. We all also felt like our lines would be more urban in feel than suburban, which was an interesting choice especially because we all agreed on it. Blue and grey were present in all our choices and we each had one personal color as an accent. Not only do I think that our styles are very similar, I think our collective line would be a huge hit!

The piece of clothing I chose to include is a purple cotton dress. I wear it all the time, especially in the summer. My favorite color is purple, which is also why it was included in my line. The other colors I chose to work with are blue and grey. I wear these colors a lot and they are also both comfortable and simple. These qualities were important to me in my design. I wanted a collection that was easy to wear, easy to mix and match, and easy to dress up or down. I wanted something that was comfortable and still cute. Something you could just throw on and go. Something effortless. And that's why my line became "Effortless". I like the idea of making fashion easy and personal. I believe this dress is part of that.

In a few years, when I no doubtable become a hugely successful Butler graduate, I will most likely be working for a large non-profit arts organization. As such, my attire will be business casual- skirts, dresses, trouser pants, flowery tops, flats, cardigans. I will definitely have to find items I can work long hours in and still feel comfortable and look cute. Because I'm in an arts setting, I can stretch the corporate dress code a bit and find things that express my personal style and creativity. Out of the office, I can imagine I will wear much the same kind of clothes I wear now. Probably jeans and cotton dresses, t-shirts, sweaters, and sneakers. Simple things. Effortless items.

Kathryn Graham- Fashion/Color Reflection

1) From the discussion our group had I was able to learn something new about people's fashion sense compared to mine. Along with being able to learn something new I was also able to connect with group members whose fashion taste was similar to mine. By having a male in the group I was also able to learn about fashion from the male point of view.

I learned that men do not like to stick out in a crowd based on their clothing. They like to dress in what they like and do not base clothing choices on what other males wear. Many often like to blend in and wear more earth tone to darker colors. Also, the male in our group liked to shop in more contemporary stores such as Gap or Pac Sun.

Female fashion sense on the other hand varied from the male fashion sense. Women want to look good and will take the time to get ready in the morning and select clothing to allow them to look put together. They tend to choose articles of clothing that are staples that can be translated into many different outfits. Colors of clothing tend to be neutral colors as well much like the male in our group.

My personal fashion sense differed from other group member's fashion sense in that I tend to dress more athletic than the others but when I do dress nice I love to dress in clothes that are contemporary and preppy. We do share similar taste though in color in that we all dress in neutral colors along with viewing our style as what we like and not what other people think. Finally, we all had a similar taste in clothing styles which would be classified as contemporary.

2) The line of clothing that I came up with for Mr. Laurent would be called C.A.S. This would stand for Classy, Athletic, and Sophisticated. I gave my line this name because it describes my style and my outlook on fashion and life. I believe this line would appeal to women between the ages of 20-30, who are working women but still like to get out and exercise when they have free time. The colors for the line include coral, white, and black because white and black are staple colors for any women with the addition of being the go to colors in times of fashion need while coral adds spunk and personality to any type of clothing. I would incorporate my favorite article of clothing into my line in a variation of the actual piece. The blazer could be made in all of the colors I chose which could be used for any season depending on the color you bought and would act as a staple in any woman's wardrobe but could also jazz up just a regular outfit.

3) Considering the field of work I am going into, elementary education, my clothing will differ from a business world look others would wear. In order to incorporate my fashion sense and style I would love to buy all my clothing from J. Crew. My work outfit would consist of a nice pair of khaki slacks with a fun white top that would be placed under a coral cardigan with beige or taupe heels and accented with a trendy necklace, bracelet or earrings depending on my mood (or activity in my classroom) for the day. My play outfit would be completely different from my work outfit. I would wear a Nike workout outfit, which would be consist of capris, a t-shirt, and a jacket with a pair of fun colored Nike sneakers in order to be comfy but still have the element of an active lifestyle I want to have. Of course I would also have to have my grocery outfit, shopping outfit, nightlife outfit, lounging outfit, etc., etc. considering that I love fashion and am an extremely successful Butler grad!

Radha Patel-Fashion/Color Reflection

I learned that many people like to have a comfortable fashion sense. They will have those specials days where they will wear dresses or suits, such as prom night, but usually they like being comfortable. Some people just think about the comfort, while others think about being comfortable in a “cute or fashionable” way. That is what I think my fashion sense is. I do not usually wear sweats unless I am at home or in my room all day. I tend to wear jeans and a cute shirt with a jacket if it is chilly. This doesn’t mean I do not like dressing up because I also love dresses. I loved dressing up for prom, senior dinner and graduation last year. I like shopping for the dresses for these types of occasions. The people I talked to in class agreed with me. As per colors, the two girls I was talking with liked more blues and blacks, whereas I like color. I love the colors purple, red and turquoise in my clothing. I also like black because it sticks out in dresses.

Based upon my fashion sense, I came up with a clothing line called RP Fashions. I decided the three colors for this line would be purple, red and black. My favorite color is purple and I was told it is a great color on me and is a fashionable color also. Red is also a good color to wear on almost any skin color and black makes almost everyone look slimmer. This would be a line for girls who would either like to wear comfortable clothes, dresses or Indian clothing. I would put a little Indian touch to the clothing to make it different compared to other clothing lines. People interested in buying something a little different and colorful would buy clothing from my fashion line.

If I had to wear something to work, I would probably wear comfortable dress pants, probably gray or black and either a blouse or nice swearer, which is a color such as lavender or red. I like ruffles a lot; therefore I would wear ruffle blouses sometimes. If it were a normal day, I would probably wear jeans with a nice top or a tank top with a cardigan. If I were in a mood to wear something even more comfortable, I would probably wear yoga pants.

Michael Tsamasiros- Fashion Reflection

1) What I learned from other people's fashion sense, is that people take their fashion more serious than I do. Some people are color coordinated and take time to figure out what to wear and when to wear it. For me its much different, especially for occasions. If there is a day where I have no special plans, I usually wake up, and wear the first thing that catches my eye. If there is a day where I might be attending a sporting event, I usually try to wear a sports jersey that matches the sport. The only part of my clothing I really take seriously is my shoes. I have an acquired taste in shoes. Not just sneakers, but all shoes overall.
2)The line of clothing I came up with for Mr. Ralph Lauren is called Anything Goes. Simply because I really have no limits for clothes. I like everything, from jeans to sweats to dress clothes. My main colors that I truly like are Red, Navy Blue, Gold and Dark Green. These colors are pretty much the main colors that I enjoy wearing. This line of clothing is mainly for young men, because this line of clothing could either be for sporting events, or even casual days hanging out with friends. The picture above is of my Amare Stoudemire jersey for the New York Knicks. Basketball is my favorite sport to watch, and the Knicks are my favorite team, so this jersey has a lot of meaning to me, however it would not be in the line of clothing for Mr. Lauren.
3) In the future, if my life goes as I am planning on it, my outfit for play would probably be the same. Just because money would be no object, I would not change my taste in clothes. I would definitely try and make myself look more presentable, but my closet would consist of the same sports jerseys, jeans and sweats. For work, depending on what position I am in, I will most likely be doing physical work with my hands, so dressing in clothes that I am not afraid to get dirty is a must.

Marissa Kampe- Fashion/Color Reflection

1) I found that people usually wore whatever they were most comfortable in or whatever made them feel most confident. People’s fashion sense, mine including, reflects a lot of what they see around them, whether it’s colors, trends, or styles. I feel that it compliments a lot of my style, because I typically wear clothes and colors that I am comfortable in.

2) I posted a picture of my rain boots. They are definitely one of my favorite articles of clothing because they are bright and useful for walking around campus in. The line of clothing I came up with is comfortable and affordable, yet not sloppy or trashy looking, and very stylish. It has a lot of yellows, pale pinks, and blacks/slates. The name of the line is "Spring Comfort and Style" because a lot of the clothes in it are meant for warmer weather. It includes a lot of sun dresses and skirts, rain boots, and cardigans. I think mostly young women, right out of college, or in college would wear the line, because it can be professional looking or everyday comfortable, depending on what you wore it with. Boots would definitely be in the line.

3) A typical work outfit would be a pencil skirt or pants, heels, and some sort of dress top. A play outfit would be jeans and a t-shirt, boots, sneakers, Uggs, anything that I’m not afraid to get dirty in.

William Lamar- Fashion/Color Reflection

1. I learned a lot about other people's fashion sense. I was in a group with two girls, so their sense of fashion was obviously much different than my own. I prefer more basic clothes, while girls seem to like clothing that are more intricately designed. Our fashion senses complimented each other in that they are all not raggedy and have a more elegant and sophisticated look to them.
2. I chose a PRL shirt with a oxford collar. It is a relatively simple design. It is checkerboard all over in blue, light blue and white. I named my line the "Intern Collection by William Lamar". I chose this name because it is designed for people that are still in college, but want to break into the business world once they graduate. Many of the pieces are suitable for a business-casual workplace, or for school. The main colors will be blue, tan, and black. I chose these colors because they compliment each other well and seem to work well with a lot of other colors.
3. I would typically wear a business suit to work in the future. My ideal position would require a suit every day. A tie may not be necessary, most days I would wear a full suit, or at the very least, a sports jacket without jeans. When at play, I will wear whatever is appropriate for the situation. It all depends on what I am doing, if it is a social gathering, I would probably wear a collared shirt. If I am working out, a t-shirt would be fine. When working out I would just wear athletic shorts or if it is a situation where that would not be appropriate, regular shorts would be fine. I will try to stay away from jean-shorts at all costs.

Ryan Rosebrough - Fashion/Color Reflection

1. Through discussing with my group, I learned that everybody has their own unique tastes in fashion; however, many of the same factors influence what one wears. For instance the weather is a s huge factor that helps one determine an outfit for the day. Also, the company one is going to be in plays a big role as well. I would think one would dress differently around and an employer as opposed to friends. I learned that most people have a certain dichotomy when it comes to fashion. People tend to dress similar to their peers, but at the same time it seems that they also want something that makes them stand out from "the bunch". My sense in fashion was somewhat different than the rest of my groups pertaining to the style of clothes I wear.

2. This part was really hard for me. As you can see from my pictures above, I like black. Black is definitely a color i would include in my clothing line. I think black is a very complex color and if used correctly, has the ability to compliment or stand out in any design/color scheme. The other two colors I would use would be red and blue. This is only because a majority of my clothes are actually red and blue. I obviously am attracted to these colors for some reason. It must have some sort of subliminal appeal. Straying away from color, the types of clothes I would like to include in my line would be V-necks, cardigans, flannels and things of that nature. Hopefully it would appeal to guys around my age that like dressing nice but casual at the same time. As far as names go I really had no idea, but the name I finally came up with is "Casually Formal". I feel this name fits as it describes the look I am going for. The outfit on the left would fit better in clothing line that the shirt on the right. I most likely would not sell the shirt on the right in my line.

3. If I could dress any way I wanted to without concerns of money, my work clothes would hopefully consist of casual but dressy vests with a collared shirt and tie and dress pants. Inn my opinion, I like the fact that it's a little casual but professional at the same time. I feel as though it appears to make one more approachable as well. My "play" clothes (if I understand correctly) would consist of the normal play clothes. I am a big fan of Nike so needless to say I would wear all Nike, from shoes to shorts to shirts.

Fashion/Color Reflection- Kaylin Beckwith

During our group discussion, I was intrigued by others’ sense of fashion. One person loved big bold patterns, while another enjoyed the simplistic idea of dresses, and still another enjoyed the utility value of a basic jacket. I found that I could relate to each person’s preferences; It seemed as though aspects of each person’s fashion sense could be found in my own fashion sense. For example, I do not have many items with bold patterns; however, I love to mix and match patterns in my personal style. I do not have many dresses, but on the off-occasion that I do employ a dress, I can feel the boost of positivity it gives my day. And Lastly, on most days, especially when I am just going to class or not feeling like putting much effort into my outfit, I sport a basic, comfortable jacket or hoodie as a means of utility rather than style. Each person’s personal fashion sense differed from my own; however, could easily be found intertwined with mine.

These sneakers seem to be a staple of my wardrobe in the spring, summer, and fall. They are quite simple, but utilize a fun, interesting pattern that I can contrast or compliment with whatever outfit I decide to wear; furthermore, they are comfortable, cute, and one of my favorite colors. The clothing I came up with for Mr. Laurent could be constructed all around these shoes. It would consist of striking, fun colors such as a rich yellow/gold or a pale and true robin’s egg blue, and these colors would be contrasted with the most prominent color of the line- charcoal gray. It would also hold small, intricate or simple, patterns that would often contrast each other, such as wearing a tiny floral print on a shirt with small stripes on shorts/pants. The clothing of this line would include sneakers or fun shoes such as these, in many colors or patterns; shirts, soft and loose, and often in color; sweaters, large and simple, often in dark colors; and jeans or skirts that add to the overall effect. I would also like to include several dresses that add to the collection. The name I came up with for the collection is “Sweet Comfort.” This was chosen because the fun, flirty patterns remind me of candy or ice cream in the summer- sweet. And although the outfits are fun, and diverse, they are also everyday comfortable wear-hence, comfort. I decided that women in their late teens and twenties would buy this line, perhaps even into their thirties for the more mature pieces of the collection.

As a successful Butler graduate, I would continue to wear the clothes found in my “Sweet Comfort” collection. I want to somehow work in an organization centered around children, so my work and play clothes will probably interact. In this sense, I think the line is perfect. Money will simply allow me to expand my choices into finer pieces than that which are currently available to me. On days where I am in the office or giving a presentation, I will have to leave my collection and wear more professional and rigid clothing such as pencil skirts and heels; nonetheless, I will still keep it comfortable and loose by adding an oversized sweater or something of the sort. On days where I am with the children, I may not want to wear my favorite pieces from the collection; however, instead I will wear jeans and a basic Tee or top, in order to be an active participant in whatever activities are going on. In this way, my collection will simply be dressed up or down according to my daily plan, making it a truly compatible and practical collection of clothing.

Lori Andriot- Fashion/Color Reflection

1. During our group discussion I learned that many people like to still with the basics: white, black, grey. Probably more or less for convenience that for a lack of wanting to have color in their lives. Of course there were people in the class, and even in my small group, and really enjoyed wearing color, of all sorts and variation, as much as possible. I also noticed in my small group than comfort was something that was essential in a wardrobe. Whether it's a love of yoga pants, or uggs, or anything else that personally comforts you in someway, it is sought out in fashion choices. Which I understand, this is why I fight into the majority. I have more neutral clothes in my closest than anything else and although for me I don't find comfort in sweatpants (don't own a pair), I do find comfort in such things as jeans and v-neck t-shirts.
2. The clothing line that would essentially be inspired by my fashion decisions would, I hope, be named after me. And I really don't mean that to be conceited at all, however I think that were someone to design an entire clothing line around my choices, that it would only be fitting to name it after me. However if that were not to go over to well, then I would like it to be named the "colorful conundrum." This name would be fitting, because there would be a puzzling lack of color. I essentially don't wear color- except for blue. So this clothing line would be fashioned out of grays and blacks and whites, and blues- with hints of other colors. It would be a classic line of clothing that could potentially be worn by a person for a good length of their life (that is unless their clothing style were to change). The picture that I attached is my formal dress, and it holds an abundance of the things that I personally look for in clothing. Its classic, has a very retro (1940's) vibe to it, which personifies my old soul, it also is very neutral in color, yet at the same time is hard to describe in color. Alas, this clothing line would be filled with very similar options to this one, and it would be geared toward a mature audience. I'm not going to but an age limit on it because I don't feel that maturity can be described by age, but never the less those that are comfortable and mature enough to wear this line can and hopefully will.
3. In several years I hope to be a pharmacist so a typical work outfit would be business attire. Which I LOVE. So typically I would be wearing business pants and pencil skirts and nice blouses and button-down shirt. For play outfits it would probably be very similar to what I wear on a typical day now. Jeans, boots or flats, and v-neck shirts, because that's what I'm comfortable in.

Kazmyn Perry-Fashion/ Color Reflection

1. From our in-class assignment, I learned that a lot of people's fashion sense is determined mostly by the lifestyle they lead. Their favorite articles of clothing are most often pieces that are worn during times they find entertaining or recurring. The members in my group complimented my style because of their use of colors such as gray, navy blue, and black. We all tend to look at the weather to determine our fashion for the day, and we all tend to stay in our little range of colors.
2. The name of my line that was unique to me was titled "Subtle life Casual style". My line would of course include colors such as blue, black, and gray. Along with these colors would be a really nice denim. I feel that denim is one of the most versatile fabrics because it can be dressed up or dressed down or placed somewhere in the middle. I enjoy being able to choose how it will be conveyed depending on my mood. I see my line as being pretty casual but full of potential for an individual's personality. I feel that my line would appeal to college students as well as recent graduates. The line would appear simple but have a stylish undertone. I feel that this sweater would definitely be in the line. Its colors fit the criteria and it could definitely be paired with a dark denim.
3. A typical outfit for me after I graduate would still include denim. However, it would also include dressier shirts and shoes. I would be comfortable and functional, but still keep my sense of individuality. I would definitely include sweaters, flats, denim, and flowy shirts. I plan to teach in a Hispanic country as my career, so my line would still be applicable even when I graduate and move on. To play I'd probably wear stilettos, fancy shirts, dresses, or skirts. I imagine my play attire being a little more dressy. However, I'm somewhat of a tomboy at heart so denim and hoodies would also still be incorporated.

Fashion Reflection Blog

1. I learned that a lot of girls prefer the brighter colors along with black. Pink/red gives the person more color so it was a common choice. Black is a dressy color so it was also a widely accepted color choice. Also in many of the examples of clothing people brought in had jewels or sequins to add shine. However, most of my favorite pieces of clothing were unique dresses.
2. I chose this dress because it is completely unique and original. My line of clothing would mostly be dresses or dress clothes and would be called Yours Unique. It is directed towards 16 to 24 year olds (as younger, usually unmarried and starting a job). The colors would include black, pink and gray. I chose these colors for my line because they are professional and look good on most people.
3. For a work outfit, I would probably choose a black, sequined tank top with a gray jacket. Black high heels would be a must. The pencil skirt would be gray and longer (to be more appropriate for work). My goal for the work outfit was to be cute yet professional. To wear to play/relax in would be light blue jean shorts and a simple white "babydoll" top with simple jewelry and flip flops. I wanted my outfit to be simple and comfortable.
