Milk Product- Ryan Rosebrough

When this project was first assigned, it seemed very daunting; however, as time passed the milk project seemed more and more manageable. After the first couple of days, ideas started to come to me and I began to pick up inspiration from products and items around me. Once I began to draw my ideas and sketched on paper, things became fluid and I rarely hit a hitch in my designing.

As I began designing, I paid close attention to the target audience. The thing that kept coming to my mind was when I thought of the target age group was the famous cartoon Tom & Jerry. In these cartoons, the classic “milkman” made common appearances in the episodes. The milkman would come and deliver glass bottles of milk to the house in which Tom and Jerry lived. During the time of this cartoon, members of the target audience were children most likely watching this cartoon. Milk was still classically delivered to each house and the idea of milk delivery was reinforced through this cartoon as well. From this I thought it would be a good idea to bring a nostalgic approach to my design by using glass bottles.

The next idea that I had was to incorporate the milkman’s attire into the milk bottle in some way. Through scribbling ideas out on paper I decided that I would give each individual milk bottle a fabric bowtie around the “neck” of the bottle. Along with this, the milkman hat is also a keystone feature of the milkman. For this I decided to emboss the hat on the front of the bottle and as I like the idea of incorporating a sense of touch to my product. When the consumer feels the embossed logo on the glass bottle, they will connect this feeling to my product. I decided to use this as my company logo.

To add a twist on the traditional round glass shape, I decided to make the bottles have edges. My inspiration for this came from the Naked Juice bottles that I see in C-Club. The idea of changing the traditional shape of packages is appealing to me as I feel it make products stand out among the crowd. I also decided to give my bottles a foil cap similar to those on Danimals Drinkable Yogurt which is precisely where my inspiration for this idea came from. The foil caps would be color “coded” similar to how cartons of milk are already (red= whole, green= skim, etc.).

My next challenge was to design some type of packed for my glass bottles. I was stumped… completely stumped. I had no clue what I was going to do until my room walked in with a new pair of shoes. I know this may seem odd, but the lid of the shoebox was perfect for packaging by milk bottles in a unique fashion (it is extremely hard to explain but hopefully I can make some type of visual aid for this). This package would be white and black with cow spot designs on it and the brand name across the front. The nutrition information would be contained on the back and the address would be contained on the side. Each package would contain four bottles of milk.

Lastly, the four main features that are important to this milk must be displayed in one way or another. These features are as follows: organic, vitamin D, calcium, and zinc. Since there are four health features and 4 bottles per package, it made sense to have each bottle contain a unique feature somewhere on the bottle. For this, I decided to print these health attributes on the back of the bottles (which one can see in my sketches).

After adding all of these ideas up and putting them together, I had created my very own unique milk product which I spent a massive amount of time on. I would like to introduce everyone to my new product— The Milkman’s Best.

Brand/package/label Project, Caroline Hedrick

For this project, I had a hard time deciding where to begin. My milk drink product is called Very Dairy. I had a difficult time deciding the name of the product, which ended up being my starting point. I wanted the brand to be memorable and stick in the mind so it would be purchased more often. A rhyming name would be fairly catchy. Also the title explains a little bit about the product: it is a milk substance.

The bottle is designed to look like a cow sitting down. The shape (though hard to tell in the picture) is supposed to be slightly irregular shaped. Similar to the “Mrs. Butterworth” bottle, I wanted a little definition in the bottle. This also adds variety to the bottle. Many middle-aged people would have grown up with the friendly syrup-bottle-lady. By mimicking the same style, they will be more inclined to buy it. The cap has the horns and ears of a normal cow not only for more uniqueness but also to help open the bottle. The cone shape fits easily in the hand and the slight indentations add better grip. The black and white spotted to resemble a cow to catch the attention of the consumer’s eye. In addition, it is 100% recyclable (in reality, it is as well).

The mascot is a cow fairy. This I decided to call the “Very Dairy Fairy.” She is a cow with a mask and a wand to grant wishes, one of which is one hundred calorie milk and no fat with all the taste. In addition it has seventy-five percent of the daily recommended calcium.

For the front of my bottle, I chose a bold, white, yet simple and easy to read titles. The back (with all of the nutrition information is a smaller, simpler font because it is required to be on the bottle but not made to advertise the brand. The mascot appears on the back to show the key selling points of the product.

From this project, I learned several things. I had to deal with the space issues of the bottle. The bulging of the legs and face was difficult to make along with the make-shift bottle as well. Combining utility and design was difficult to do. However, it all turned out to be the brand called “Very Dairy.”

Art Show - Kathryn Graham

The opportunity to visit the art show opened my mind up to new avenues
in art. From visiting I found I had a deeper appreciation and acceptance
for all forms of art. The show provided the opportunity for any observer
to connect with a piece of art. The diversity among the types of art was
instrumental in giving everyone this opportunity to connect with the
show in one way or another. It amazes me that such creative and
beautiful art is being made here within the dorms, Greek houses,
apartments and houses on the campus of Butler University. It shows that
no matter where you are or what you have, art can be created all around
you. The entire show over all was amazing. I loved seeing the different
artistic talents each individual possessed but also how it can all come
together in one place to show the beauty behind it. My favorite art
piece in the show was the one on secrets. The artist took words and
visuals and created a piece of art that is both bold and beautiful. A
deeper understanding and meaning can be found within the piece along
with a connection with the art on various other levels.

I would pay $10 dollars for any of the black and white photos. These photos
would be a wonderful addition anywhere in a house, dorm, or apartment.
The colors have such contrast that it allows for diversity in function
along with the beauty the black and white photos have. I was nervous
about having my work displayed in the art show. It should not have
mattered since it’s just like having your art displayed when you were in
elementary school but there was something different about the art show.
Anyone could see my work and critique it, say how awful it is, or
uncreative it is and that scares me. Having my work shown though did
make me proud and helped me see that I do have a little artistic flare
that I can show to others even though I’m not Picasso. By having a
student art show at Butler it provides an opportunity for artistic
students to show case their talents to fellow students. Also, it allows
students to appreciate the arts. But most importantly it recognizes the
new art program and what they have to offer students.

Art Show, Caroline Hedrick

At the art show, I saw such a variety of pieces that were completely unique. From giant stuffed dolls to plastic tents to anorexic magazine covers, the unusual depiction of art was shown. Personally, my favorite grouping was the stuffed art, it was cool to see the wide variety of things that can be stuffed. I was amazed at the quality of the art as well. Also, I stood transfixed in front of the projector image watching the art being created. (I thought that was awesome to see.) My favorite individual piece cannot be decided. The half skeleton, half Cosmopolitan magazine cover was quite thought provoking about today's society and its effect on woman's appearances. The photographs of the dilapidated houses and buildings with children were also so fascinating. Honestly, I was making up stories to go with the pictures. I would definitely pay ten dollars for any of the photographs and also many of the stuffed items. However, I would pay even more for the giant doll with silver sunglasses that scared the living wits out of me when I first walked in. I thought my work looked pitiful in comparison to the other artwork in the show. However I did like my self-portrait/silhouette and thought it fitted in pretty well. I was proud to have one piece that coincided so well with all of the more advanced art projects. It is an honor, not a requirement to have my work shown in front of anyone who cared to see it. I thought it would be a good way to get a person's name out there if they were searching for art opportunities. Overall, I loved going to the art show and glad it was assigned to attend because I probably would not have gone otherwise and missed out on some amazing pieces of work.

Art Show- Ryan Rosebrough

It was a very different experience for me to walk around the art show. I do not consider myself a very artistically inclined person, so I didn’t really know what to expect. From the moment I stepped in the room, I knew that I was in for a treat. I had never been around anything like this before. Yeah, I’ve been to the art museum a couple of times, but this art was completely different. These were artistic works created by kids exactly like me. It was amazing to see what kinds of things can come from the students here at Butler University. Walking up and down the aisles of artwork, I was in a constant state of captivation. Every time I thought I had a favorite piece, my eyes would wander to the next piece on display. Everything on display was amazing!

When it comes to which piece I would pay $10 for, this is very hard decision. Honestly, I would probably pay $10 for most of the pieces in the show. If I had to narrow it down to one, it would most likely be the chair made out of what appeared to be trash. It is awesome to see how beautiful things can come out of seemingly useless materials. It would also be awesome to in my lounge next year.

As far as my favorite piece is concerned, it was an easy choice. My cardboard sculpture was by far my favorite. I love how it held its ground among the many other wonderful works of art. To see my sculpture presented along with the rest of these great pieces gave me a sense of accomplishment and pride. I never thought I would see the day when my art was displayed in and art show, but I gotta’ say, it was pretty sweet.

Mike Tsamasiros - Milk Project

For this project, it was not easy to think about what exactly would catch an adult's eye when they were looking to buy milk. But when you really think about it, the main thing older people are worried about is their health. So I needed to think of a brand name that would make it look like a healthy product. Also, normally people think that healthy products do not taste very good. And that is pretty much because they actually don't. So I also figured that my product name would show that it isn't just healthy, but it is also delicious. So my brand name is Cow-Ci-Yum.

The "Cow" stating that it is obviously milk, the "Yum" stating that it is a fine tasting product. Together, it sounds like "calcium" which everyone knows helps build strong bones. For my slogan, I chose to pick something simple that would get straight to the point. So for my slogan I used " A Cow's Mix of Health and Deliciousness." I made this up simply because it tells you exactly what the product is about, and it is not to boring but not to silly.

I chose to stick with the simple color of blue. I do not know exactly why, but when I think of milk, I think of the color blue. Blue seems like a strong and healthy color, and that is exactly what milk is, strong and healthy, so I figured it made perfect sense. This project required a lot of creative thinking and it really put my mind to the test. I think that the brand name and slogan I came up with are perfect for adults because it pretty much gets straight to the facts. Adults have their main focus on health, and that is exactly what my product was about.

Milk Project- Jamie Kostecki

Mustache Milk is simple and classic, just like its target audience. Intended for men and women over the age of 45, Mustache Milk provides three essential vitamins and minerals needed daily: Calcium, Vitamin D, and zinc. Chalking up a measly 100 calories per serving, Mustache Milk is an easy, healthy pick for men and women looking to get more enjoyment out of life.

In order to attract the intended market, I decided to utilize packaging that’s straightforward and clutter-free. Flashy, loud, and busy labels are used to catch the attention of children, and that’s just not who we are aiming for. As a result, I chose to use the colors light blue, white, and black. Simple, but not too plain that it will get looked over on the shelf. Light blue on the front label just made sense; purple or green wouldn’t quite produce the same calming effect. Not to mention, the colors of the packaging tend to be associated with the product it contains; what adult would want purple or green milk?

Included on the label are some useful facts about the product: milk helps to build stronger bones and muscles, supports elements in bones and teeth, and builds and repairs cells to promote cell growth while keeping skin healthy. Mustache Milk is also 100% organic—something that our target audience is finding increasingly important. Incorporated into the label is a little bit of humor; Three tips to looking younger and staying healthy: drink Mustache Milk, drink Mustache Milk, and did we mention drink Mustache Milk? I think you get the picture! A cartoon of a classy-looking cow communicates that our milk is the purest out there from the finest possible cows. I was also sure to include the manufacturing address just in case our customers feel like mailing us a letter to tell us how fantastic our milk tastes.

Mustache Milk—Drink it for health, wear it with pride.

Art Show - Lauren Bacon

When I first walked in to the art show, I noticed the furniture [I think it was furniture?] made out of what appeared to be trash or household items. I love seeing art created from simple materials. It shows the beauty in things that would normally never catch your eye. I then walked around and was intrigued by the photography that were close ups of faces. I loved the how the painted faces portrayed different adjectives. I could see how the colors correlated to which word the artist chose, especially after my research of what different colors represent from our silhouette project. Plus, I am interested in photography in general. In high school, I took a few photojournalism courses and one of my biggest regrets is not continuing pursuing the hobby. Ironically, I recently was on stumbleupon.com and stumbled upon and it was a tumblr account of someone who posted pictures with a similar technique of painted faces with strategically chosen colors. This exhibit reminded me of the site. I would have definitely paid $10 for one of these snapshots.

To be completely honest, it was almost surreal to see my artwork displayed in the art show. I always doubt my creative ability, and I was actually incredibly proud of my work. But it was also shocking, especially when some friends who went to the show not knowing my work was going to be displayed sent me texts commenting on how they have no idea I have any artistic inclination. Their kind compliments boosted my confidence, and even helped me have to courage to tell some of my other friends to go check it out, not only to support me, but also all the other student artists. This is one reason why the art show is valuable to Butler students. I'm sure there are many other shy, not-so-confident individuals who want to be creative or already are inherently talented, but never get any recognition. Small compliments go a long way, and personally, I'm more confident in my creative skills and am sure that anyone could benefit from encouraging words. Who knows, perhaps the next Picasso hasn't been discovered because he doesn't have an outlet to display his work and hear the positive reinforcement.

Milk Project- Veronika Lewis

When given the assignment for the milk product the first thing I thought of was our target audience. When I think about adults and people of an older generation I think of sophistication, as well as the desire to go back to being young and spry. I think of the desire to keep up with their health and get a many vitamins and minerals as necessary into their bodies. As people grow older, it;'s frustrating to start to see themselves not being able to do stuff they were able to do as a kid because their bones are weaker and they move ten times slower still working up a sweat, That's why I decided to name my product, "4theBones" representing how the milk will keep bones healthy enough for adults to have strength to do things they did when they were young that they still dream and strive to do. It is spelled with a "4" rather than a "For" because 4 represents the four essential nutrients in milk that help the body greatly. They are Potassium, Calcium, Vitamin D, and Vitamin A. My slogan, "Keeps ya MOOvin' and Groovin' All Day Long", also represents that youthful feeling along along with my logo. I added the "MOO" just as a cute little corny slogan representing the sound of a cow that makes this amazing milk. Movin' and Groovin' sounds like a phrase of the 70s which brings adults back to their younger times. I drew a cow on a scooter for my logo because it keeps moving and riding with much energy and strength. Riding a scooter is probably something a lot of adults did as a kid and reminisce about, wishing they were still strong enough to do it. I wanted to stick with my "back in the day" feeling when I picked out my bottle. I picked a glass bottle because it had an old "milkman" feel to it. It's like when the milkman used to deliver milk around the neighborhoods. Although my bottle is a lot smaller, it is a representation of that time and type of milk bottle. The only modern feel I tried to contrast the old feel with was with the font, red and blue colors, and bolded print. I want adults to feel just as good, healthy, and strong as they did when they were young by drinking this delicious milk.

Art Show Reflection- Alison Harre

WOW! The art show was so great, I even went twice! The first time I went by myself and I was looking at a lot of the artwork to see if I knew any of the artists. I thought it was really exciting to recognize the different people and their creations, especially if it was someone I knew. The second time I went with another person and I really started to pay close attention to the art work itself, regardless of the artist. There were so many different kinds of work at the art show, but I did like how all of the classes were grouped together so you could figure out some kind of theme for that overall class. I never knew that there were so many talented artists at Butler!

Probably one of my favorite pieces was the candy that looked like stained glass. I remember the first time I saw it I thought that it was just stained glass, which is one of my favorite styles of art. As a kid, my mom would always take me to glass sales and glass blowing shows. I always thought those types of creations were so original, colorful, and intricate. This persons creation sparked all of those qualities when I first saw it. Since I restrained myself from touching the artwork, I'm not sure if it was actually candy or if that was just the name. I would most definitely pay $10 for this artwork, probably more. That type of glass work is very difficult to learn how to do and create. This type of art work is timeless. It can be used in a window or as a picture; the possibilities are endless.

It was really weird to have my art work displayed. I have been in many art classes before in high school, but when they were displayed no one really noticed them. The art work was simply put throughout the hallways and no one really noticed them. In this case, there was an entire preview of all of the artwork throughout Butler! When I was walking around the Art Show friends that I knew would ask me why I was in there, or if I had any art work. It was a different feeling when I had to point out my artwork when I was so used to not having any one pay attention to mine. Overall, my friends were very impressed by my art work, and the meanings behind my work. I felt like my art was in an actual museum for everyone to see. It actually felt pretty special, even though my first reaction was weird, but that is just because of the unfamiliarity.

Milk Project

Milk is not really a necessity to people, but it is very nutritious and helpful to the health of the human body. I never would have guessed that something like milk could have a target market. The Request for Proposal asked to essentially bring a whole marketing plan to a milk product. I was to try to sell a milk product to a target market over the age of 45. People over the age of 45 tend to be conscious of their health when it comes to purchasing and consuming food and drink products. My plan was to let the target market know that this product was intended for the health of people of an older age without offending them in anyway. I thought of the name “Dairy-Licious” for the milk product because it gives off a “cute” vibe to the person buying the product. Other health conscious foods that one would find in the super market have brand names which are not as playful and same too serious. I want the target market to know that they are drinking milk, not a supplement or medical drink. I used the bright blue and yellow on the label so it can stand out from other organic milk products yet appeal to the older target market. On the backside of the bottle I displayed the nutrition facts and ingredients that go into the milk itself. The side of the bottle contains a description of the Milk from the makers of Dairy-Licious. This message from Dairy-Licious is important because it adds the feeling of some sort of relationship with the producers and consumers. This is something that you won’t see on ordinary milk labels. I chose a glass bottle to be the container for the milk. Glass bottles are more expensive and I want the consumers to realize that the milk is of high enough quality of to be in a high quality bottle.

Milk Project- Sarah Leib

When given this project, I tried to look at all the guidelines for this milk product so I could create the perfect milk product. The main factor that went into my decision was based on the age group that this milk is targeted to. When I think of the age 45 years and older the words sophisticated, simple, and elegant. My idea for Melvin Meyers, the CEO of Moo-Moo Milk Makers is to create this new milk product called “Beau Vine” and will be placed in a wine bottle container. The reason I chose Beau Vine to be the new name of this milk company is because it uses a play on words for Bovine. Using a wine bottle for this product gives the idea of an older targeted age group. Beau Vine is “Milk, the new white wine”. Adults don’t need to drink wine anymore; they have this new milk that Melvin has created that is the new “secret” to staying fit and looking young. Now when this group of people from 45 years and older looks at wine bottles, they will have a whole new idea of what this “wine bottle” stands for. They will learn to go out with the old and in with the new. This milk product has so much to offer though, more than its beautiful packaging and looks that will give you. Based off of the recommended daily allowance, one serving being only 100 calories is a completely organic offer 75% of Calcium, 50% of Vitamin D, and 10% of Zinc.  On the front of the bottle is a small picture of a cow drinking from a “Beau Vine” bottle, I chose this picture because it represents that the milk that Beau Vine has to offer is so pure and organic that the animal that it comes from is even so willing to drink its own product. This older age group is the group that usually sits around with the girls or at a dinner party and drinks bottles and bottles of wine. Their first instinct before was to drink wine but now when they see and think of wine bottles Beau Vine is what is going to be on their minds.

Art Show-Kazmyn Perry

My favorite piece of artwork was the one about secrets. I thought it was amazing how the artist took words and visuals and transformed it into a truth that we all know. The idea that secrets have immense power in our lives and in some ways define us. I thought it was the most honest piece of artwork I saw, and I actually felt as though seeing it provoked some thoughts about secrets I may hold within myself. I'd be willing to pay $10 for the artwork I just described. As I said before, its idea really resonated with me and I feel that it'd be an amazing piece to own. I am a serious art lover, so getting to have people look at my art made me feel very accomplished. I marvel at the art of others when I go to museums and I hoped that that same feeling was felt in the people who got to see my art. I understand how difficult it is to let your emotions out and place them in an artisitic form for the world to judge. I felt that by having my own art displayed, it made me more aware and grateful for the artists that do it everyday. I think that having a student art show at Butler is an amazing way to show students how much talent is actually present on our campus. I was absolutely blown away by the amazing pieces I saw. I think it shows the potential of students and allows students to be recognized for their hard work. I enjoyed it immensely and hope to see another student art show.

Art Show- Sarah Leib

Being able to go to the Butler art show was honestly an honor. I never really realized how many great artists were at this school and overlooked the potential that my fellow students had to offer. In past student art shows that I have been too, I have been some what impressed but this art show definitely gave a variety of different types of art and each and every piece having its own diversity. My overall experience with this art show was very positive, there were so many pieces of artwork that I truly did love. This makes my decision of what art work I would spend $10 on. In high school I really got into photography, being able to work in a dark room, using backdrops, and many other techniques. The painted faces collection really caught my eye when I was walking through the art show. I have seen this kind of photography before and I've always loved it. I would most definitely pay $10 for this but I would also love the chance of being able to do some of my own photography using paint. Seeing my own art work in the show was a cool and different experience. I am proud of the hard work and time that I spent working on my silhouette and I hope that the viewers enjoyed looking at the work that my classmates and I worked really hard on. Having the student art show is a really good idea, it's a cool experience to have your own work posted rather than going to a museum and looking at others art work. It's refreshing to be able to see your own work being admired and appreciated by other students and faculty.

Milk Project- Carly Sobolewski

The brand that I would present to the Moo Moo Milk Makers would be called, "Fresh Acres Dairy Farm." The product is targeted specifically towards adults over the age of forty-five. Because of the target market I wanted to give it a nostalgic feeling. I did this by using a classic container made of glass that includes features such as a sturdy handle and an imprint on the ridge to mess-free pouring. The style of the glass is supposed to evoke memories from the past of the fresh, cold, milk delivered daily by the friendly neighborhood milkman. Even though the bottle is vintage the font and design are more modern but not too "out-there." The glass is clear so the customer will be able to see the actual product in the container. I think that is important that consumers are aware of it's condition based on sight. Also the bottles are environmentally friendly and can be recycled or refilled. The brand name is "Fresh Acres Dairy Farm," to emphasize that it is organic and produced by a farmer that treats his/her cows humanely and does not use any harmful chemicals or antibiotics. The name gives it the feeling of being natural and full of nutrients. I decided to include "Dairy Farm" to let the consumer know that the producers specialize in dairy and put all of their effort into making one high-quality product. The fact that it is 100% organic is displayed on the majority of the container. Emblems display the organic logo and on the bottom the customer can find out exactly where the milk was produced. Instead of having random black spots the cow on the bottom has one colored spot that resembles the country in which it was made. Also the manufacturing information is on the bottom. Another way that the design assures the customer that the milk is farm fresh are the earthly sprouts that surround the nutrition label/ingredients. On one of the four faces of the bottle is the type of milk displayed in a giant font and of a specific color. The model presented above is skim milk and the color theme is light blue. Other types are 1% milk which would have the word "one" enlarged on the side in a corral color and 2% milk which is like the others but orange. This way customers can associate the colors with the type of milk they usually buy ("honey, just get the blue one"). The enlarged font was chosen so that people over the age of 45 won't have a problem spotting it and reading the text. Along the bottom is the slogan which says, "Udderly Nutritious, Delicious, and Fresh,"(Get it?...Udderly). On the bottom is also states that Fresh Acres Dairy Farm milk is the most recommended product by doctors who specialize in preventing and treating osteoporosis and bone health. Nutritionally the milk is exceptional. It provides the daily recommendation of zinc, calcium, and Vitamin D along with additional nutrients such as proteins and carbs. Did I mention that one serving is only 100 calories!? It's true! You can get all the health benefits without worrying about other health problems such as unwanted weight gain. By drinking Fresh Acres it will keep you healthier which can contribute to being more energized, looking younger, and feeling satisfied. The product can appeal to any age group but I think it targeted more toward adults. Who says that people over 45 have to buy dull looking milk products. They can appreciate the design as much as anyone else. The product also comes with clever phrases that act as incentives to get the buyer to pour a glass of milk. As the amount of milk is lowered little cartoons of cows are revealed. At each level is an encouraging or clever phrase (ex: "Own that Milk Mustache!" "You have bones of Steel!" "mmm, Almost Done!" and "Looks like it's time to get MOO-re Milk." Kids and adults alike will be amused and each month the phrases will change. Sometimes they will be witty statements, sometimes quotes, sometimes facts about the product, and many other creative motives. Finally as you can see on the front panel of the milk that displays the brand name there is a logo. The logo is a cow head but I thought it would be cool to only put the black parts of the cow on the bottle so that when it is full of milk the lines would be implied. Without any actual lines and the complete image still appears. When empty it will just look like black spots. Thanks for considering my product pitch!

Art Show - Nicole Ehlert

I have to say that, going into the art show, I was not expecting to enjoy the art as much as I did. Perhaps I underestimated the level of talent that Butler students have, or perhaps I was just stressed – but either way, I truly enjoyed looking at the different works that people created. I was very impressed with the creativity that the students demonstrated and was amazed that some of the works were even being sold. I loved looking at the different ways that students in the same class conceptualized the same assignment yet their work turned out looking so different. My favorite piece of artwork was a photograph by Maria Porter of a girl with aboriginal paintings on her face. The girl’s eyes showed a great deal of emotion and the angle at which the photo was taken revealed just part of her face, leaving some to the imagination. I thought the piece was very imaginative. I would be willing to pay $10 for that piece, as well as for some of the faded photographs that were along the back windows of a girl in a dress posing among nature and old buildings – they were beautiful as well. When I got through the aisles to the board that had my own work displayed on it, I was slightly surprised. Mine seemed to fit in well with the rest of the show, and I don’t typically consider myself to be an overtly artistic person. I felt proud of my work and began to look at it from an outsider’s perspective and enjoy it in a new way. I also enjoyed seeing it posted up next to the work of others in our class because it was easy to see how each piece was the same yet different from each other piece. Viewing the art show made me realize just how valuable the student art show is to Butler. Without it I would never have known how talented some other Butler students are in their various artistic endeavors, and I think it is always important to share with each other those things which we are passionate about. I also thought it was valuable to have my own work displayed there because it shows me that art is not something that only “certain people” can create. The show opened up discussion among the viewers and caused me to think about things in new ways, which I believe is a critical part of a liberal arts education that Butler offers us. Overall, I really enjoyed the show and I was glad that I was able to attend it.

Katie Zeiger- Art Show Reflection

I really enjoyed taking a walk through the art show. It was very insightful and refreshing due to this campus not having much artwork on display most of the time. Seeing all of the different ways that people approach art and express their creativity are really interesting to me. Looking at all of the different projects, no two were exactly alike, and that is what makes art so special. I had the chance to see the art show last semester, and it was also very impressive. However, from what I remember, this year's show was slightly bigger and better than the last. The variation among projects was the thing that most impressed me. The shelter projects were incredible, but have a different appeal than painting, sculptures, photography, and drawings (also amazing). It is very cool to see all of the different styles of expression and approaches to art. A show like this is important because it shows that art can be found in many places and can be quite unexpected. Some things that stuck out to me were the numbered project series, the masks, the black and white series of photographs, the colored eyes, the 3-D tree made of magazines and cardboard, the furniture, and the shelters. For $10 I would be willing to by the chair that was crafted from an open suitcase. It had cylindrical concrete legs, and was given cushions. I liked that the suitcase was retro-looking, and seemed to be getting a "second chance" and a new purpose. The idea was creative and I thought the project looked well put together and attractive (not to mention it was made by a girl that lives down the hall from me).
It was nice to see my own work in the show because it gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment. Having people approach me to tell me that they were impressed with what I had done really meant something to me. I think that the art show allows students to see what amazing things their peers can do and how creativity can manifest itself in a variety of ways among the student populous a Butler. The Art show is important because it could spark interest in taking a course or trying something new. It gives students the opportunity to display their talent and hard-work for others to see, and maybe even the chance to sell some pieces too. The show provides an outlet for recognition, not only for students, but for the university's growing art program as well.

Art Show Reflection- Mark Hirschenberger

I did not have high expectations for the art show on campus last week. This is mainly because the student art shows that I have been to so far were not impressive or entertaining. The recent art show on campus exceeded my expectations. I was very impressed at blown away by some of the student works. There was so much imagination and effort that went into the art that was displayed. The show made me realize how creative Butler students are. My favorite piece of artwork that was displayed was a bridge/wave shape that was made out of yogurt containers and protein drink containers. I thought it was interesting because it related to the first project we had to do in class: do something with to objects in which you can put another object inside of. It was also interesting to see an art student use something other that the traditional art materials to make their work of art. If I had the spare room, I would buy this piece of artwork. However, the value of it probably exceeds $10. But if there was one piece of art at the show that I would buy for $10, it would most likely be one of the ad posters from the different decades. The most interesting ad poster was the one from the 1960s. The ad displayed a picture of Mr. Potatohead and was an advertisement for toys. The artist designed the advertisement with the psychedelic style in mind. I liked the poster a lot because I am a huge fan of trippy and psychedelic artwork. It was interesting to see something rather normal like a Mr. Potatohead to ad in a psychedelic style. After I saw the different ad posters, I wished to myself that I could have the same talent as these art students that were able to display their work. That's when I realized that my work WAS displayed in the art show. I almost didn't notice my class's artwork at the show because I was displayed next to other art student's artwork. This made me feel like I accomplished something major. I am not even an art student, yet I was able to have my work displayed next to other artists for people to look at. After feeling these emotions and being captivated by the artwork of other students, I became really appreciative of the art show's presence on campus. I hope that we can have more in the future so that others can be able to experience what I did when I entered the art show.

Milk Project- Andre Smith

I decided to name my milk Latte Milk. I chose the name because I did not want it to sound like a normal milk brand. Since we are marketing to people in their 40s or older, I thought it would be better to name it something that sounds sophisticated. Instead of sounding like milk, it sounds like something you would order at Starbucks!

I made a simple “LM” logo for my milk brand. I wanted to play with the idea of having a recognizable symbol to go with the product. I made it into a cursive symbol just to give it a more classy and sophisticated feel.

I wanted my bottle design to give a nostalgic feel but with a modern twist. Back when the target market of my milk was younger, they usually had square and rectangular milk cartons. So I picked a bottle that had more square sides where the label is and the top and bottom are more rounded, just to give it a modern feel.

I also wanted the container to be clear so the buyer can see the milk inside. I know I am very picky with my milk and I usually like to see it before I buy it so I thought that would be important to incorporate.

On one side of the label I have a little summary of what Latte Milk is about. It basically focuses on how Latte Milk comes from the finest cows from the farms of Italy. The Vitamin D and calcium work to help regenerate skin to help the drinker stay younger. I also included a sentence on how the techniques used to get the milk have been handed down from Italian ancestors. People usually like things that are old or connected to ancient times because they think they are better so I added that to the marketing of it.

On the other side of my bottle, I have a little written statement from Madonna. It basically says that she has been drinking Latte Milk for years and it has kept her looking youthful. The font would be like she actually wrote it to give the label a more intimate feel. My idea for this is to have different celebrities endorse Latte Milk. I would choose celebrities from the 60s, 70s and 80s, or celebrities the target market would be familiar with. Other celebrities I thought would be good are Jon Bon Jovi, John Travolta, Janet Jackson, Tom Cruise, and Gloria Estefan. I want a wide variety of stars from all racial demographics to attract people from different backgrounds. The celebrities could just talk about how they think Latte Milk is important and how it has helped them look and stay youthful, mentally and physically. This is sort of like the got milk? Ads.

On the back, I have the nutritional information and at the bottom of it, it makes sure to note that the milk is organic. I saw on television that some buyers actually do not know what organic products really means but buy it anyway because it sounds good. I have to admit, I actually do this too so I thought it would be good to include this on my bottle.

Alexis Marin- Milk Project

Brand/Package Label Project- Moo Moo Milk Makers
4-26-11

My milk product for Moo-Moo Milk Makers will be called “iHeart Milk”. It is an adult only milk beverage targeted to men and women 45 years of age and older. Due to their age, I decided to model the milk package after the deliverance of milk back in the 60’s, which is a glass bottle or milk cartons. This is to remind them of how things were when they were growing up, which would make the package more appealing to this specific audience. I chose a glass bottle because it is more sophisticated for this mature audience.
The individually sold glass bottle will hold approximately 20oz of milk. It will have a dip around the rim which is big enough to either pour from (into a glass) or to drink from comfortably. The front of the bottle will advertise the brand “iHeart Milk,” the slogan “Love your milk, Love yourself,” and its organic information. The back of the bottle will read the milk’s nutritional information and its manufacturing information.
The colors of font will be simple and gender neutral; majority black with a splash of red. The red will be to highlight the words I want to stand out from the rest of the milk packages. “iHeart” will be in red while “Milk” is in black. These two colors will also pop against the white milk filled, clear container.
Since the model of the glass bottle package is a throwback to the sixties, the brand name “iHeart Milk” modernizes it to give the overall package balance. In today’s day and age, everything is technology based. This is what my brand name is modeled after. When talking through social networks, people tend to shorten words sometimes using symbols. For example, the word “love” can simply be replaced through the symbol of a heart “<3”, making “I <3 you” the equivalent to “I love you.” Also, “iHeart” reflects today’s biggest technology products such as the iPod, iTouch, and iPhone. Therefore, “iHeart Milk” is a modern way to say “I love milk” (I “<3” milk  I “heart” milk  I LOVE milk= “iHeart Milk”). I wanted to include a heart somewhere in the brand name, but I figured that would be more appealing to just women and not both men and women.
As for the slogan “Love your milk, Love yourself” is actually quite simple. Milk is an important part of your daily diet, and you should enjoy drinking it! Especially for those who are 45 and older, looking young is always a concern and part of looking young is looking healthy. So the more you drink milk, not only will you be healthier, but you’ll look healthy which means you’ll stay looking fresh and young! So; love your milk, love yourself!
