Art Show- Sarah Leib

Being able to go to the Butler art show was honestly an honor. I never really realized how many great artists were at this school and overlooked the potential that my fellow students had to offer. In past student art shows that I have been too, I have been some what impressed but this art show definitely gave a variety of different types of art and each and every piece having its own diversity. My overall experience with this art show was very positive, there were so many pieces of artwork that I truly did love. This makes my decision of what art work I would spend $10 on. In high school I really got into photography, being able to work in a dark room, using backdrops, and many other techniques. The painted faces collection really caught my eye when I was walking through the art show. I have seen this kind of photography before and I've always loved it. I would most definitely pay $10 for this but I would also love the chance of being able to do some of my own photography using paint. Seeing my own art work in the show was a cool and different experience. I am proud of the hard work and time that I spent working on my silhouette and I hope that the viewers enjoyed looking at the work that my classmates and I worked really hard on. Having the student art show is a really good idea, it's a cool experience to have your own work posted rather than going to a museum and looking at others art work. It's refreshing to be able to see your own work being admired and appreciated by other students and faculty.

Sculpture- Sarah Leib

For my group, we were assigned the word swoop. When I first started to think of the word swoop, I related it to something doing in a downward motion. After that I instantly thought of a slide. Thinking back to the times as a kid going down a slide, I would associate the word swoop with that motion. When I think of this word, I also think of birds, swings, and airplanes. If I were to look outside at any given point, I am sure that these words to describe an action would be throughout our surroundings. Though we don't make a given point to look out for these, they have been around us forever and will continue to be.

Silhouette Project- Sarah Leib

The main colors that I used to represent myself for the silhouette project were blue and purple. In the interior of my silhouette, I used these two colors to represent many characteristics. The reason the interior of my silhouette is composed of many little pieces is because it represents the many pieces that create who I am today and who I strive to become. My life is like a puzzle, yet to be complete, but each day it gets a little bit closer to being a whole. The interior is mostly covered in blue which represents my creativity and intelligence. Blue to me also represents my strength, the wisdom I’ve obtained, and the trust I hold between my friends and family. There are spurts of purple throughout the interior because it represents the mystery and nobility of my life.
The background of my silhouette represents the world around me. The background is composed of mostly black with random spurts of red. I used black to represent the evil and the dangers of the world around me. I placed little spurts of red in the background, red is mainly associated with caution, blood and war. It's me against the world.

Fashion Reflection- Sarah Leib

1. From this assignment, I learned that each and every person has their own type of fashion sense. Everyone has their own sort of look when it comes to fashion, though some people have some similarities within each other their own styles. When we were asked to choose things that depended on what you would wear from day to day, most of the answers were based on comfort level, weather, and mood. Each of the girls in my group had a different perspective of clothing choice, but I think that if we each took something of our own collection and made a joint collection it would be very unique and diverse.
2. The picture I posted was one of my favorite dresses. When it comes to clothing, I am always looking for comfort. Though I dress down a lot and wear sweats, I do enjoy dressing up. For the clothing line that I would create for Ralph Lauren, it would be a combination of comfort, cuteness, and sophistication. The line of clothing I created is called Comfy Chic. The main colors the are featured in my collection are blue, white, and black. Though these are very basic plain colors, design and aesthetic detail are something that would stand out in the collection. This clothing line would mostly be interesting for teenagers and college kids. The dress that I chose would be part of the collection.
3. Years from now, a typical work outfit would still focus on comfort, but have a sophisticated look to it. Either dress pants or a pencil skirt with dark nylons, with a complimenting blouse with a cardigan. I would also be wearing a small black heel. For a "play" outfit, it would be something close to what I wear today, something comfy such as yoga pants, leggings, Uggs, and a sweatshirt. If I were to play up the "play" look, I would wear dark jeans, a small heel or boot, and a colorful shirt.

Public Art Pitch Reflection

The best presentation for the public art pitch was the Ask Blue TV stations. I think that this is a really good idea for our school because it is both creative, useful, and interactive. With the places that the group decided that they would put their project, it would be an essential asset to the Butler Community. It offers so many different options that it would provide within. All the things that Butler offers such extracurriculars, speakers, and events should all be given as information to the campus.
I think that the Picnic on the Mall would be most expensive. Their project consists 20 individual statues throughout the campus. I think that in addition to all the materials, construction and everything, with maintenance to upkeep the statues could end up being very costly in the long end.
If we could do our pitch again, I wish that we would have been a bit more prepared. I think that our ideas were very solid, but if we would have had a presentation like a PowerPoint, it would have really enhanced our presentation in total. I really did like our public art idea but when we went to construct it, it didn't work out like we had hoped. I wish we could have made our original work better.

Microphone Sculpture (Right outside of Clowes Hall)

For our project we decided to build a microphone out of wire located right in the front lawn of Clowes Memorial Hall. Built into the microphone will also be speakers, so that whenever there is an event at Clowes, the appropriate song will play through the microphone. In the case of no event, the microphone can play a variety of different kinds of music throughout the day. The microphone will also be able to rotate 360 degrees, allowing spectators to view the art work from every angle imaginable.

The reason why a microphone seemed appropriate to construct is because of the importance Clowes Memorial Hall has not only to Butler University, but also to the city of Indianapolis. With something as basic as a microphone, the numerous of world famous musicians, actors and actresses that have performed at Clowes Hall would not be able to showcase their form of art. Also, Clowes Hall is right alongside Hinkle Field house as one of the main attractions on Butler’s campus.

The reason why we think our microphone should be chosen as the public artwork to be displayed on campus is because not only is the placement ideal to have a piece of public art, but because everyone can relate as why the microphone is in front of the theater and not only is it visually appealing, it has audio for all ages to enjoy.

Sarah Leib- Paper Value Project

I increased the value of this piece of paper by making a blow up cube from just a single piece of paper. The value of this paper cube could be used for entertainment/enjoyment. Without using any other materials, I was able to construct this.
